New Favorite Skincare Product

Parslely_Seed_Facial_Cleansing_Oil_200ml

I’m obsessed with Aesop products. Aesop’s objective has always been to formulate skin, hair and body care products of the finest quality. They investigate widely to source plant-based and laboratory-made ingredients, and use only those with a proven record of safety and efficacy. Every product I’ve used of theirs makes my skin feel incredibly soft, rejuvenated, and alive. Everything smells wonderful too. And even though most of the products carry a hefty price tag they last forever so you really don’t have to buy them that often.

I just tried their parsley seed facial cleansing oil and looooove it. It removes makeup and overall grim from the day and leaves my skin feeling so clean and soft. It is made with a bunch of amazing, natural oils too so it’s highly moisturizing and nourishing to your skin.

A few of my other favorite Aesop products: A Rose By Any Other Name Body Cleanser (smells divine and leaves your skin feeling so soft!), and Parsley Seed Cleansing Masque (I don’t know what the deal is with all this parsley seed but it must be magic because I use this masque like twice a week and my skin couldn’t feel more clean and soft after I use it!)

P.S. This all-natural skincare line is amaaaaazing as well. I’m in love with their apple cider vinegar toner!

Culottes: Do or Don’t?

Culottes

I love a good skinny jean, but when the light and airy cropped-leg culottes started trending this past summer I was stoked. The 1940’s “split skirt” style has become such a staple in my everyday attire. I find them so easy to wear! They can easily be paired with most tops and shoes. Not to mention, the wide-leg pant is extremely comfortable, wearable, and I think flattering on most figures. By adding just one pair to my wardrobe, I’ve been able to create a library of looks. From daytime to nighttime, and casual to dressy, I’ve found the culotte to be one of the most versatile pieces around. I couldn’t be happier it’s stuck around for fall too! Below are some links to a few of my favorites I’ve been spotting around the web…

Ace & Jig bay pant in haystack (on sale too!)

Black Crane grey black wide culottes.

The Culottes – Everlane.

ASOS culotte trouser.

Power trip culotte – these are so fun and on sale now as well!

What do you think? Would you wear culottes?

The Clothing You Buy Should Cost Enough to Make You Sweat A Little…

Electric Feathers

When I first saw the new FW15 collection by Electric Feathers I thought to myself, “I need a legit reason to wear that gold lamé dress right now.” But actually, you know what, you should be able to wear gold lamé whenever you like. In fact, why not go full jumpsuit while you’re at it. That rope dress pictured above is also something else. This is all, of course, out of my price range but it’s nice to dream and admire and be inspired…

Speaking of inspiration and clothes, it’s clothes like these that remind me of a goal I’ve been aiming and working toward for the past couple years now: paring down my closet and steering clear of fast-fashion (thankfully my 1923 house has the teensiest closets and doesn’t allow for an exorbitant amount of clothes). This, of course, means no $20 pair of jeans. Everything I look at costs enough that it causes me to seriously hesitate…which is good. It forces me to think about just how much I want that item of clothing, how much I’ll wear it, and whether I think the value it offers is worth a significant cost. It’s been a good challenge that forces me to buy less and waste less, which in turn has positive impacts on the environment and the workers who make these goods.

I also love buying second-hand, vintage, eBay, and from companies like this to get quality goods at a more affordable price.

What about you guys? How do you handle this topic? Where do you shop? Why? I would love to hear your thoughts!

Essie Day Jewelry

Essie Day Jewelry

Essie Day Jewelry

Though this post is loooong overdue, I’m still super excited to be featuring artist, Leslie Day, of EssieDay jewelry. I first met Leslie down the street from my house at the Village Ballroom. We would run into each other at various kids’ events (she also works as a nanny) there. Then one Sunday when I was browsing the Portland Flea, I saw her selling her jewelry. I didn’t realize she was also a crazy-talented jewelry artist! I immediately fell in love with her work and ended up taking one of her rings home with me. I wore her ring nearly everyday and knew I had to ask if I could do a feature of her on my blog. I love how streamlined and simple her pieces are, yet really unique at the same time. I wear her stuff nearly everyday. Everything she makes is so easy to wear, which is really important to me—especially as a mom. I can wear her pieces with a t-shirt and jeans and feel a little more put together, as well as with a little black dress on a date night.

In these pictures, I’m wearing her beautiful, simple stick studs I custom ordered from her, brass x ring stacker, a singular brass band I also custom ordered, the x cuff two way bracelet, and a gorgeous Chrysoprase natural stone necklace. Keep reading for more pictures of these pieces and my interview with Leslie and her growing business…

These Skincare Products Are Nothing Short Of Miraculous…

SW Basics

My friend Kim generously gave me a bundle of these incredible products this past Christmas and I can’t believe I’m just now getting around to sharing them with you. They are miraculous. Ever since approaching thirty I’ve become more selective and careful about the skincare and makeup products I put on my skin. I’m always on the lookout for new products that are truly all natural, and organic. So when Kim showed me S.W. Basics and I saw the list of 4-5 ingredients front and center on the bottles, I was floored. Not only are the products completely natural, all ingredients I can recognize (coconut oil, rose water, tea tree oil, etc.), but they work! I have fairly sensitive skin and my skin has never felt or looked better since using these products.

And that’s what makes S.W. Basics stand out. They make all their products from scratch using only whole, high-potency ingredients. Here is an excerpt of their story…

For us, less isn’t just more; less is everything. We’ve found that if we stick with only absolutely essential ingredients and don’t add a bunch of extra stuff, we don’t need to put a hundred things into our products. Using fewer ingredients means more potent skincare. We don’t water it down with cheap synthetics or exotic fillers. It also means that our products are more likely to be safe even on the most sensitive skin. That’s why everything we sell only has 5 ingredients or less. And they still make you look amazing and smell pretty.

Above are a few of my favorites from their line of products. That moisturizing cream will knock your socks off. I’ve been using it on my face (morning and night before I go to bed) and even all over my belly and my skin feels so hydrated and my belly not so itchy! I’ve noticed less breakouts since using their products too! I can’t recommend enough. Next I want to try their oil serum, which sounds like a game-changer.

BONUS: I just learned that S.W. Basics are sold at Target now too!!

What Is Beauty?

I came across a new favorite magazine, Darling, not too long ago and had to share. It is a magazine about and focused on women, in the most refreshing, honest way. It challenges cultural ideals of beauty, questions its exaggerated importance, and sees beauty in every type of woman. None of the women featured and pictured in this magazine are altered or photoshopped in any way. How amazing is that? It’s super inspiring. I’d highly recommend.

Beauty Secrets: 08 Kimberly Ray

Klover Beaute

So excited to finally be bringing the beauty secrets posts back and am pleased to kick it off it again with my beautiful friend, Kim! Kim lives in Portland with her husband, Will, and does skin and make-up as a professional. She is the proud-owner of Klover Beaute, a beauty lounge that provides spa services including eyelash extensions, special occasion hair and makeup, as well as waxing, facials etc. That’s right, book your next self-care/indulgent spa day with this lady! Since she is a skin and make-up guru and a super babe, I had to ask her what some of her secrets are. Read on for the painful yet so-good-for-your-skin thing she does right before getting out of the shower (I tried it the other morning and lasted about 2 seconds. Biggest baby over here), a new product she made and is selling herself that I’ve been dreaming existed for years (I will be purchasing one ASAP!), and a few AWESOME beauty moments that she deems regrettable…

Spring Fever

Spring Fever

Here on the west coast it is looking and feeling more and more like spring (weeeeeeeeee! And my deepest, sincerest apologies east coast…)! I have never been more happy to see sunnier days, even if it’s still hitting 35 degrees come nightfall. So, if you’re anything like me, you’ve been dreaming of Spring for a long time now and above are a few things that have gotten me even more excited for spring to get here…

Prettiest Drugstore Pop Of Color

Revlon's Colorburst lip balm

I guess it’s beauty week around here or something. I just had to share this new lip stick I discovered. I feel pretty lost when it comes to drugstore makeup. I have my tried-and-true brands and don’t buy makeup very often because it’s usually the more spendy stuff I go for (true confessions). But, at my last haircut I was admiring the pretty lip color my hair stylist, Liberty, was wearing…

Beauty Secrets 07: Ilana Kohn

Ilana Kohn

I’m pinching myself over this next beauty secret’s post. Ilana Kohn is one of my favorite textile and clothing designers. The jumpsuit I’m wearing in the picture on the right on my website is by her. It was one of my favorite, go-t0 pieces up until real winter cold hit and I got pregnant. I love her colorful, bold prints and how clean and relaxed the structure of her pieces are. Everything she creates is not only beautiful but totally wearable. I love the nod to the 60’s you see in all her amazing patterns, and how easy and un-fussy her clothes are.  I have a feeling I’ll be shamelessly living in her new spring collection all spring and summer.

Needless to say when I (on a complete whim) reached out to her and asked if she’d be a part of this series and she said yes, I was floored. I feel so humbled and excited to bring you Ilana’s down-to-earth beauty secrets and a peek at a few of my favorite pieces from her gorgeous new spring collection…
